Steve Dziadik cannot shake the memory of seeing his pregnant wife, covered in blood, being dragged out of a mangled car after a wreck nearly 40 years ago.

"I would not wish on my worst enemy what I felt in that accident," he said.

The pair sustained severe injuries in a car crash on New Year's Day of that year. Mary Ann was six months pregnant but lost the child from injuries in the wreck.

Safe driving talk

Steve Dziadik, a Florida resident, recently spoke to area students in driver education seminars focusing on teenage drivers, the dangers of teenagers driving with teenagers, teenage driver contracts, preparing teen drivers and passenger awareness. Dziadik, who lost his unborn child in an accident, made it his vocation to warn others about the pitfalls of unattentive driving. “You don’t get do-overs when driving” is his message.

His cousin, Tammy DiCenso, who lives in Derby, organized the visits at Platt Technical High School, Notre Dame High School in West Haven, Seymour High School, Emmett O’Brien Technical High School and several local churches. Total attendance during the week-long activity exceeded 970 students, she said.

Tony Stafferi, the mayor of Derby, as well as several members of the PTA, attended one of the driver education seminars to begin planning how future drivers ed seminars may be able to reach even more parent and teenager combinations.

Dziadik recently published a book, “How’s My driving? Why every other driver doesn’t seem to have a clue!” He also publishes through his Web site, www.Hows-My-Driving.com.

Why Every Other Driver Doesn’t Seem To Have A Clue

Oh, we have all done it. Some person causes us grief, a motorist stalls at an intersection, the light is green, but you miss it! Forced to wait for the lights to recycle, you silently utter curses, you beep the horn, you may even demonstrate the amazing dexterity of your middle finger. None of these things help, but it certainly succeeds in doing two things, you get to vent your anger, and secondly it increases your tension level.

The Book

hows my driving bookHow’s My Driving is not so much a ‘how to’ book, but rather a thoughtful reflection on the whole subject of driving, and the mind set that people need to use.  Parents would be wise to get a copy for their learner driver children, and more than likely will get much insight by reading it themselves.

For $16.95 you may just save a life, maybe your child's life. Better value than spending $20 for the movies? The book is available online at Amazon and at Barnes & Noble or for an autographed copy please email the author direct.
